Economic Alliance launches Okanogan County High School Business Plan Competition!

Over the years Okanogan County communities have discussed how we export our biggest resource, our kids. They graduate from High School head out to college and don’t look back. Well this competition will ask High School Students to look at their local communities current strengths and opportunities. We will ask them to identify current businesses in their town that are successful and providing jobs. Then we will ask them to look at the vacant storefronts, businesses or lots that are in their community that are potential opportunity for NEW Businesses.

The Economic Alliance is asking HS Students to develop a Business Plan for a business that builds upon their community strengths and opportunities-a virtual business or brick & mortar, it must operate from their community or within Okanogan County. We want them to answer the question “If you leave and go to college what type of businesses would need to be here that could entice you to move back and live here?” or if they choose to stay here “What type of business could you see yourself owning and operating in your community?”

This competition will be in three parts. A Screening Round which includes a review of the Executive Summary and a 2 minute video, A Presentation Round which is a review of the 4-7 page Business Plan and Pitch Deck, then the final round where the Student Presents their plan to the judges.

We hope that we receive several applicants from High Schools throughout the County. There will be Scholarships awarded to the top 4 places which can go towards the college of their choice, or if the student is ready to start their business now, then they could apply the award money towards the start up costs for their business. Top awardees will also receive ongoing mentoring from the Economic Alliance and partnering business leaders.  For more information contact Roni at 509-826-5107.
